William H. “Bill” King

Feb. 20, 1928 - April 15, 2013

— William H. “Bill” King, 85, passed away at 12:21 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Health. He was born on Feb. 20, 1928, in Kokomo to the late Joseph Nelson and Mary (Barnett) King. Bill’s wife Bessie (Duffy) King survives.

He was a 50-year member of Naphtali Lodge 389 and a member of the Scottish Rite. Bill attended Kokomo High School before continuing his education with specialized training through Haynes Stellite, where he was employed from 1948 to 1981 as a machine repairman. Bill also was a teacher at Kokomo High School and taught welding and hydraulics. Having extremely high skill levels, Bill worked as a blacksmith, journeyman and was a contractor building homes. He could fix absolutely anything that was broken.

Bill is survived by his wife, Bessie King, and children, William (Julie) King, Christie (David) Moree, Greg (Barbara) King, Roger (Sheri) King and Angela (Mike) Dobbins; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Steve (Andrea) Heathcoat and Brenda (Kevin) Canfield; stepgrandchildren, Craig (Leigh Ann) Heathcoat, Kevin (Cameron) Heathcoat, Stacey (Steven) Russell and Paige (Rob) Grunnagle; sister, Monterose Iseminger; nine nephews, 14 nieces and a special great-niece, Deanana Hurd.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brothers and sisters, Katherine Fields, Lois Charles and Joseph King, and half siblings, James Barnett, Clarence (Mickey) Barnett, Fred Barnett, Gifford King and Mary Barnett.

There will be a funeral service for Bill at 1 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 S. Main St., with Pastor Kenneth Sprangler officiating. Following the service we will be taking Bill to his final resting place in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery, Kokomo. Friends and family are welcome to join for visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at the mortuary, with a Masonic rites ceremony at 7:30 p.m. by the Naphtali Lodge 389.
