Janet Louise Mitchell


— Janet Louise Mitchell, 73, Kokomo, passed away at 12:15 p.m., Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at her residence.

She was born on Jan. 14, 1940, in Kokomo, she is the daughter of the late Glen and Letha Rusk. She was married to Gary L. Mitchell on Nov. 25, 1962, at Calvary Baptist Church by Rev. J. McFarland Smith. She and husband Gary were happily married 50 years in 2012.

She grew up in Kokomo, graduated from Kokomo High School in the class of 1958. She was previously employed with Western High School and Kokomo Center School Corporation, retiring in 2000. After retiring, she moved to Zephyrhills, FL, where she attended the First Baptist Church in Plant City, FL. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for many years and rejoined the church when she moved back to Kokomo in 2010. She loved to read and was a devoted Bible reader and prayer warrior.

She enjoyed traveling, especially cruising with friends. Janet enjoyed being with her family. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. She always had a smile on her face and was kind to everyone.

Survivors include her

husband, Gary L. Mitchell of Kokomo; one daughter, Lori (James) Kirkpatrick of Kokomo; one son, Steve (Beth) Mitchell of Morgantown; one sister-in-law, Nellie Rusk of Galveston; grandsons, Randy Mitchell, Holden Hite, Jake Mitchell, Jack Mitchell, Cass Mitchell; great-grandson, Alexander Hite; brother, Jack (Bobbi) Rusk of Kokomo; a cousin, Larry Gordon of Galveston; also several nieces, nephews, and special friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one infant daughter, and one brother, Dick Rusk.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church, 1967 W. Boulevard, Kokomo. Pastor Jeff Sexton will officiate. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo; also one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to Community Home Health or to Calvary Baptist Church, with envelopes available at the mortuary.
