July 2, 1939 - June 22, 2013
After a courageous battle with cancer, Joyce Ann Hopkins Moore Cardwell, 73, was at home when she met her Savior face to face at 10:35 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2013.
She was born on July 2, 1939, to Frank and Mildred Hopkins in Peru. She was married to Roger Hugh Moore on Nov. 1, 1959, in Peru and he preceded her in death in 1989. She married James B. Cardwell, of Kokomo, on Sept. 8, 1990, where they resided in Peru. She lived in Peru all her life and retired from Peru Trust Co.
Joyce lived a life full of love and joy. A perfect example of Jesus’ love, she is now dancing in heaven and is no longer in pain. Cancer may have taken her away from us here on this earth, but her spirit lives on forever. “And I will rise when he calls my name, no more sorrow, no more pain. I will rise on eagles’ wings, before my God fall on my knees and rise. I will rise.” These words are exactly what Joyce did without any complaints. Saturday, the world lost a modest, intelligent, God-fearing, loving, patient, determined, full of integrity, giving and kind person.
Joyce leaves behind a great legacy. She is survived by her husband, James B.Cardwell, Peru; a son, Jeffrey L. Moore, North Dakota; a daughter, Jill (Kevin) Moore Guion, Lapel; stepdaughter, Beth Ann Cardwell Kuhlman, Lafayette; and two stepsons, Monte (Melissa) Cardwell, Wabash, and Byron (Jill) Cardwell, Kokomo. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Betsey (Jay) Bousman, Hillary Guion, and R.Chandler Guion, all of Lapel, Kelly (Drew) Kuhlman Simmons, Oklahoma, and Tyler Kuhlman, Lafayette, Adam Cardwell, Kokomo, Kylie Cardwell, Kristi Cardwell and Nicholas Cardwell, all of Kokomo; and her great-grandson, Jaxon Simmons, Oklahoma. She is also survived by two sisters and a brother, Lucile (Marvin) Shepler, Logansport, Sandra (James) Surface, Walton, and Ray (Carolyn) Hopkins, Peru.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister, a brother-in-law and a sister-in-law.
The family would like to say a very special thank you to the following for their exceptional care for Joyce over the past three and a half years: St. Vincent Hospital Indianapolis cancer floor staff, gynecologic oncologist Dr. Gregory Sutton and his staff, oncologist Dr. Stephen Schultz and his staff, and the St. Vincent Health St. Joseph Home Health and Hospice team.
