Beverly Susann “Susie” Rayl, 84, passed away Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Waterford Place. She was born July 10, 1929, in Howard County to Russell Lowell and Vera Deloras (McCarty) Fisher.
She graduated from Kokomo High School in 1947. She married George T. Bergman Sr. on July 24, 1949, and then married Willard (Hoss) Rayl on Dec. 20, 1972. Willard Rayl passed away Feb. 25, 1979.
Susann worked at Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Kokomo for three years. She was the court reporter in Howard County Superior Court I for 38 years, working 15 years for Judge William E. Lewis and 23 years for Judge Dennis H. Parry. She retired in October 2003.
She belonged to the Friendship Club of the Howard County Extension Homemakers. She joined Beta Sigma Phi Sorority beginning with Mu Phi Mu Chapter in 1947 and was a member for 50-plus years. She enjoyed volunteering for Samaritan Caregivers, reading to Head Start Children and her own pleasure reading. She also loved people and helping people with their problems.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Jane and husband Michael Neher, Peru; son, George Thomas Bergman Jr. and wife Marie, Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Ruth Ellen Fisher, Kokomo; and five nieces and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Frederick Fisher and William Fisher; and sister-in-law, Wilma Fisher.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, with Pastor Dale Mendenhall officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Calling will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
