James R. Lutz, 72, Kokomo, passed away at 5:10 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2014, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Jim was born Sept. 8, 1941, in Elizabethtown, Ky., to John and Stella (Cartwright) Lutz. In 1961, he married Shirley L. (Middleton) Lutz in Elizabethtown and she survives. He was a pipefitter for Delco for 35 years retiring in 1998. Jim was a member of the U.A.W. Local #292 and the National Rifle Association. He loved spending time with his family, hunting and camping.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Lutz, Kokomo; two sons, Darrell Lutz and Michael and wife Reba Lutz, both of Kokomo; six grandchildren, Derek, Ray, Chad, Brad, Michael and Makayla; four great-grandchildren, Falicity, Beonka, Hunter and Aiden; a brother, Donald Lutz, Elizabethtown, Ky.; three sisters, Linda Cecil, Catherine McMillan and Edith Rose Masters, all of Elizabethtown, Ky.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Betty and Minnie; three brothers, Carl, Clarence and Roy; and a daughter-in-law, Marlene Lutz.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Murray Weaver Funeral Home in Galveston with the Rev. Charlie Easterday officiating. Burial will follow in Galveston Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
