Dorothy E. Hughes 81, Kokomo, passed away at 5:51 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Community Howard Regional Health. Dorothy was born Dec. 10, 1932, in Kokomo to the late Willie R. and Anna E. Thicke. Her marriage to Carson O. Hughes, who survives, was March 5, 1988, in Kokomo.
Dorothy worked for Delco for 10 years. She was a member of First Assembly of God, and was involved in numerous church activities. She also enjoyed fishing, traveling, and listening to southern Gospel music.
Survivors include her husband, Carson O. Hughes; three sons, Ricky L. Byers, Larry J. Byers (Linda) and James R. Byers (Kim); a daughter, Teresa Downs (Clyde); two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Linville and Betty Joann Duncan; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Myerl Byers Jr.; and two sisters, Viola Marie Sitzes and Deloris Jene Graves.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. Services will be at 1 p.m., also at the mortuary, with Pastor Brian Hughes officiating. Burial will take place in Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.
