David Lee Pettit, 73, Seminole, Florida, and Kokomo, died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014, while wintering in Florida. He was born Oct. 2, 1940, in Kokomo, the son of C. Donald and Ramona (Leap) Pettit. On July 23, 1993, in Logansport, he married Nancy Butcher, who survives.
David was a police officer for the Kokomo Police Department from 1962 to 1982. He was a member of United Church of Christ in Seminole, Florida, the F.O.P, Masons, the Shriners and the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed spending his free time golfing, fishing, boating, doing carpentry, shooting and spending time with his family.
David is survived by his wife Nancy, Kokomo; children, Terri (Pettit) Davis and husband Dennis, Kokomo, Kelly Pettit, Kokomo, Dion (Pettit) Hinders and husband Scott, Tennessee; grandchildren, Jordan Davis, Kory Davis, Bailee Davis, Brandi (Minton) Rose, Kathryn (Eggleston) Duplichan and husband Jonathan, Michael Eggleston and wife Alexandria, Jimi Ybarra, Selina (Pettit) Sedberry, Dakota Hinders, Trevor Hinders; great-grandchildren, Logan Davis, Jazabella Davis, Victoria Rose, Jeremiah Rose, Tyler Eden, Isaac Carrillo, Maci Duplichan, Bronson Duplichan; mother, Ramona (Leap) Pettit; sister, Sara (Petitt) Baird, Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, C. Donald Pettit, and children, Jeffrey Lee Pettit, Victoria (Pettit) Minton and Paige (Pettit) Kelley.
Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Fairview Baptist Church, 2108 E. Vaile Ave., with Pastor Charles M. Butcher officiating. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until time of the service.
