Maureen Dalzell Johnson, 73, Kokomo, died at 5 p.m. Friday, May 9, 2014, at Waterford Place. She was born in Kokomo on Jan. 26, 1941, the daughter of the late Harry J. and Rosemary Dalzell. She married Steven N. Johnson in Kokomo on Nov. 26, 1966, and he survives.
Maureen was a 1959 graduate of Kokomo High School and attended Marquette University and IUK. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and Tri Kappa Sorority.
Maureen’s brother often teased her about being what he dubbed “the only KHS Triple Crown Winner” during her high school years: She was voted Queen of the Stardust Ball by her classmates, was elected president of Girls League, and was honored with being inducted into the National Honor Society. These awards, bestowed by her teachers and peers, were accepted with grace and humility by Maureen.
She is survived by two sons, Matthew Johnson and his wife, Melissa, Benbrook, Texas, and Neal Johnson, Indianapolis; two grandsons, Max and Levi Johnson, Benbrook, Texas; one brother, Michael Dalzell and wife, Jeanne, Carmel; one sister, Patricia Tudor, Richmond, Indiana; several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1229 N. Washington St., with the Rev. Father Michael McKinley, the celebrant. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family one hour before the Mass at the church on Friday.
Memorial contributions in Maureen’s memory may be made to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 W., Kokomo, 46902. Online condolences may be submitted at www.shirleyandstout.com.
