Richard Earl Runyan, 65, Bunker Hill, passed away unexpectedly at his residence Saturday, May 10, 2014. Richard was born Aug. 24, 1948, to the late Denzel and Virginia (Swindler) Runyan.
He graduated in 1966 from Maconaquah High School. He attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute. He served his country in the Army Reserve for approximately four years. He married Patricia Kay (Ross) Runyan on June 9, 1973. They later divorced in 1979.
Richard “Dick” began working for Peru Trust Co. in 1979. He moved to LaPorte, IN in 1986 to work for LaPorte Bank and Trust Co., which later became Wells Fargo. In 2004, he moved to South Haven, Michigan, to work for Chemical Bank. He retired from Chemical Bank in 2007.
Dick enjoyed most outdoor sports including golf, basketball, football, baseball, hunting and fishing. In his later years, he especially enjoyed these activities with his five grandsons. He took many family fishing trips to Pentwater, Michigan, with his parents and girls. He enjoyed pheasant hunting with his brother, Bob. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed taking money from his friends on the golf course.
Dick is survived by his daughters, Laura (Mike) Wood, Peru, and Kara Runyan, Garrett. He has 5 grandsons, Ethan Wood, Tanner McMain, Wyatt Wood, Owen Wood and Liam Wood. He is also survived by two brothers, Robert (Donna) Runyan, Greentown, and John Runyan, Peru, and many nieces and nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, ex-wife and sister-in-law, Theresa Runyan.
Memorial services will be at Allen Funeral Home, 136 S. Elm St., Bunker Hill. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, and services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, with burial services following at Santa Fe Cemetery in Santa Fe, Indiana.
