Fernando D. “Nando” Rivera, 47, passed away at his home in Peru Wednesday, May 14, 2014. He was born the son of Modesto and Seferina (Duenez) Rivera on March 10, 1967, in Texas. On July 15, 2013, he married his wife, Mellisa Rivera, at Center Grove Baptist Church, and she survives him.
Fernando was a hard-working man. In his youth he worked with his parents and siblings farming, and as an adult he did general factory labor. He had a good sense of humor and liked to spend time with his stepchildren, Keegan and Emily, and he also helped raise several nieces and nephews. His hobbies included fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Melissa Rivera, Peru; two stepchildren, Keegan Robledo and Emily Robledo; seven brothers, Mario (Onie) Rivera, Sweetwater, Texas, Antonio (Maria) Rivera, Bryan, Texas, Jorge Luis (Lisa) Rivera, Plymouth, Ernesto Rivera, Kokomo, Modesto Jr. (Sylvia) Rivera, Iowa, Ricardo (Carolina) Rivera, Kokomo, and Robert (Ashley Lynn) Rivera, Kokomo; three sisters, Angelita Maria Gaton, San Antonio, Texas, Rosa Linda Rivera (Julio) Tono, Pleasant, Iowa, and Herme Linda (Martin) Garcia, Zellwood, Florida; 50 nieces and nephews; 73 great-nieces and great-nephews; 20 great-great nieces and great-great nephews; three brothers, Ricardo Duenez, Ohio, Roberto Duenez and Julian Duenez, both of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Ester Duenez, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; three brothers, Raymond Rivera, Pete Jaimz and Jose Angel Rivera; three sisters, Lily Rivera, Maria Rivera and Blanca Estella Rivera; three aunts, Rosa Aredando, Teresa Posada and Lupe Valedez; and three uncles, Flortino Duenez Jr., Jose Duenez and Satornino Duenez.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Paul McCool officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Point Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
