Jim went to be with his Lord and the love of his life, Marie Doty. Jim was born Aug. 21, 1913, in Indianapolis, the son of Clarence and Dorothy Doty.
He was a former resident of Greentown, Kokomo, and the Daytona, Florida, area. Jim served as clerk-treasurer of Greentown for four years. He retired from General Motors in 1975 with 38 years of dedicated service as senior accountant. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in December 1941 and flew 50 combat missions over Europe as a bombardier in the 12th and 15th Air Forces. Jim was awarded the Air Medal with seven oak clusters, Presidential Unit Citation and several other medals and ribbons. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Ormond Beach, Florida, a past commander of American Legion Post 317 in Greentown and a life member of VFW Post 4300 in Sebring, Florida. Jim was also a charter member of Botanical Gardens of Volusia, The Palette and Brush Club and a life member of the Elks Club.
Jim is survived by his son, Dave, Lake Placid, Florida; daughter, Debbie Rideout, Fort Collins, Colorado, and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Services for Jim will be at the VFW Post in Sebring, Florida, in July.
