Jane Elizabeth Trueblood

April 18, 1953 - March 28, 2013

Jane Elizabeth Trueblood, 59, slipped away from this earthly life at 1:43 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Hospital. On April 18, 1953, in Wabash, she was born to Marjorie Jane Garrison Wolf and John Burton DeLancey. She moved to Kokomo with her family in 1963. She graduated from Taylor High School in Kokomo in 1971, where she was active in the choral program. She then graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.

Jane worked as a caseworker for the Welfare Department, adjunct member at Indiana University-Kokomo, instructor for the St. Joseph Wellness Center, Howard Community Hospital, City of Kokomo, ERA Dave Trueblood Realtors and, most recently, The Hardie Group Real Estate Co. During her lifetime, she was actively involved in the community through several organizations in many capacities. Past and present affiliations include: Garden Wall Club, Wildcat Canoe Club, Kokomo Civic Theater, St. Joseph Marketing Committee, Mental Health Association, YWCA, Howard County Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Alltrusa and Bona Vista. Jane became a member of the Realtor Association of Central Indiana in July 1997. She was also a member and recognized by real estate associations obtaining Master GRI, ABR, REBAC, ERS and NHRD.

If you knew Jane, you knew gardening was another one of her passions. She was a Master Gardener and not only taught others about gardening, but was always willing to roll up her sleeves and dig in! She shared her beautiful flower arrangements with her friends, family and clients. She was always ready to give “tours” of her flower beds at her home. Jane even helped to dig up some starts for those who asked.

Jane was a remarkable, caring, compassionate, intelligent, giving, loving and classy woman. One of her greatest gifts was the way she could make everyone feel as if they were the most important person at that moment. If you were fortunate to be a friend of hers, you were blessed. She was always taking care of others in so many ways, some of which we may never know. She enjoyed doing special things for others without bringing attention to herself. She worked hard, but she also knew how to relax and loved to have fun.

She spent many hours at family celebrations from cookouts and birthday parties to the annual family Christmas which was held at her home.

Some of her nieces and nephews shared these thoughts of their Aunt Jane:

“When we were little, she always had a way of letting us kids feel like we were older than we really were which we all loved. We felt ‘cool’ at Aunt Jane’s house.”

“I loved her lively fun personality.”

“I loved that she would do anything for us if she thought it’d make us happy.”

“I loved her thoughtfulness, always willing to help when I asked. She was a blessing in my life.”

“I loved that I could talk to her about anything ... And she always supported me!”

“The way she enjoyed the little things like flowers in the garden.”

“Her cookies!”

The world has lost a true selfless and classy woman, but our family will always have her in our hearts. Until we meet again...

Jane is survived by her sisters, Sarah Hanaway (Bret), Flora, and Laura Langkop, Lafayette; her stepsisters, Sharon Wolf, Kokomo, Angie Click, Galveston, and Debbie Click, Columbus, Ohio; her stepbrother, Charles Wolf, New York City; stepfather, George C. Wolf (Marceita), Kokomo; a wonderful aunt, Patricia Garrison, North Manchester; cousins; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own. Although Jane had not given birth to them, they were all her kids. Family was very important to Jane.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David DeLancey; sister, Terri Mayes; maternal and paternal grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.

A private service for Jane’s family will be held Monday at Baker-Abbott Funeral Home, Flora. Following this service, a public Celebration of Life Reception for Jane will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Monday in the Casa Bella Banquet Hall at Pastarrific, located at 3001 S. Webster St., Kokomo. Friends and family are encouraged to attend the celebration.
