Survivors include Sheryl, his wife of 47 years; seven children, Robert Todd Fernung, Tricia (Doug) Rybolt, Lisa (James) Russell, Michelle Martin, Amber Fernung, Arabella Fernung, and Kristopher Fernung; eight grandchildren, Ashlei Russell, Robbie Fernung, Kylie Sexton, Korey Sexton, Cassei Russell, Emily Fernung, Tianna Myers, and Brayden Martin; one great-grandchild, Noah Shue; three step-grandchildren, Sariya Rybolt, Sebastian Rybolt and Sausha Rybolt; and two brothers, Randy (Debbie) Fernung and Karl (Helen) Fernung.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lloyd and Jane Fernung; his uncle and aunt, Charles and Rose Mary Strawback; and two sisters, Mamie Miller and Judy Allen.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St. Services will follow at 1 p.m., also at the mortuary, with Pastor Steve Pearce officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association, with envelopes available at the mortuary. There will be full military honors provided by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo Military rites team at the mortuary. Per Dave’s request, he was cremated and his ashes will be scattered at a later date.
