Alvin H. Griffin, 76, Kokomo, passed away at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on Sept. 30, 1936, in Albany, Ky., to Mr. Lee and Lottie Griffin. Alvin married Betty Sue (Rector) Griffin on Oct. 22, 1955, in New Castle.
Alvin worked for Chrysler for 30 years and retired in 1985. He was a member of the UAW 685. He loved to do lawn work and garden. His joy was his GREAT granddaughter, who was the only one able to make him smile. She was his ray of light.
Survivors include wife, Betty Sue Griffin, Kokomo; son, Randy A. Griffin, Kokomo; sister, Sue Boyd, Russiaville; grandsons, Bradley Griffin, Jeffrey Griffin; GREAT granddaughter, Carlee Ann Griffin; brother-in-law, Bob (Kathy) Rector, New Castle, Sam (Judy) Rector, Walter Rector, New Castle; special niece, Wanda (Duane) Chamberlin; and a very special sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Justin) Waltz of Olney, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Ricky C. Griffin; sisters, Dean Griffin, Chrystell Thurston, Christine Wright; and brother, David Griffin.
Friends may call from 1 to 3 pm Saturday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes and Crematory 1315 W. Lincoln Road. Cremation will follow the visitation, and there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph at Home. Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes has been entrusted with the services.
