Ronald D. Carter, 83, died at 12:43 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Health Systems. He was born July 7, 1930, in Harlan County, Ky., the son of Garnett and Effie Carter Sr.
After moving to the Kokomo area in 1949, Ronald was employed by the City of Kokomo as a heavy equipment operator retiring in 1996. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church and had recently been attending Morning Star Church. He loved harness racing, Indiana University and Kentucky Wildcat sports, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Chicago Cubs. Ronald also loved music and taught family members to play guitar.
He is survived by daughters, Ruth Carter, and Elaine (Dean) Harrington, both of Kokomo; brothers, Charles (Sonnie) Carter, and Garnett (Peggy) Carter Jr., both of Greentown; sister, Janice Horn, Kokomo; sister-in-law, Bonnie Carter; grandchildren, Tiffany, Durban, and Derek Harrington; one great-grandchild, Jakob Harrington and one niece, Carrie Ann Carter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garnett and Effie Carter; one brother, Tracy Carter; and one nephew, Al Carter.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Morning Star Church 2900 E. Markland Ave. Kokomo, with the Rev. Jeff Evans officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery. Friends may call on the family from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at the church.
