William R. 'Bill' Jarrett

William R. “Bill” Jarrett, 91, Kokomo, passed away at 1:40 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born Nov. 29, 1921, in Tipton County, to Osto and Letha (Fitzsimmons) Jarrett, both deceased. On Feb. 7, 1942, he married Della Mae Small, Atlanta, who survives.

Bill attended Point Isabel School grades one through eight and went to high school in Sharpsville, where he graduated with the class of 1939, serving as class president. He also attended Kokomo Business College.

He was a member of Sharpsville United Methodist Church, where he was in the choir for many years, served as a lay leader and taught Sunday school class. He was past worshipful master of Reserve Lodge 363. He received his 50-year pin at Naphtali Lodge on Sept. 2, 1993, was past patron of Sharpsville O.E.S. and past officers of Chapter, Council and Commandery. He also did some volunteer work at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo.

Bill and Della Mae lived on a farm near Sharpsville until July 1, 2010, when they moved to a garden home at North Woods Commons, Kokomo. They spent 25 winters in Sebring and Avon Park, Fla. They also enjoyed many trips abroad, where they always met many new friends.

Bill was a retired farmer and had also been in advertising sales for a local radio station. His greatest hobby was working with stained glass, having made many beautiful angels, sun catchers, lamps and chandeliers. He also enjoyed sharing jokes with all he met, carrying some in his shirt pocket.

Bill always claimed his greatest wealth was his family, his wife, Della Mae and their two daughters and their spouses, Connie Jo and Dr. P.O. Burgan, Kokomo, and Judy Gail and Dr. A.E. Stouder, Avon Park, Fla.; six grandchildren, Blake (Rachel) Burgan, Westfield, Blaine (Neelu) Burgan, Indianapolis, Betsy (Bill) Wenz, Nappanee, Kevin (Amy) Stouder, Tipton, Keith (April) Stouder, Chapel Hill, N.C., Stacy (Greg) Campbell, Woodbridge, Va.; 14 great-grandchildren, Sarah, Emma, Ben, Molly, Max and Charlie Burgan, Abby Campbell, Katie, Ellie, and Sophie Wenz, Liam and Emerson Stouder, Jacy Rush and Emma Kelly; two brothers-in-law, Joe Huggler of Sharpsville, Richard L. Smith, Florida; three sisters-in-law, Sue Huggler, Sharpsville, Lou Smith, Sebring, Fla., Virginia Small, Edwardsville, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
