Jessie L. Camp, 81, Kokomo, passed away at 7:41 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Health. She was born March 12, 1932, in Bedford, to the late Opal and Olive Goldie (Clayton) Gehring. She was married to John S. Camp Sr. on Nov. 10, 1965, and he preceded her in death.
Jessie had a deep love for children that was evident as she cared for more than 100 kids in the community for more than 50 years. She also had a strong love and devotion for the Lord. Jessie was a homemaker who loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Connie (Michael) Longshore, Sharon (Dave) Stodgell, Teresa (Larry) White, and John S. Camp Jr.; an adopted daughter, Priscilla Cook; grandchildren, Kristina (Jeffrey) Glick, Jason Downham and Michelle Sanson, Angie (Bill) Courts, Griffin Longshore, Gray Longshore, Collin Longshore, and Lauren Longshore; great-grandchildren, Danielle Glick, Cory Glick, Casey Glick, J.P. Downham, Nicholas Downham, and many others she helped raise throughout the years; brothers, Warren Gehring, Harry Gehring, and Jack Gehring; and a sister, Iris Ingram.
In addition to her husband, John, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Georgia, and brothers, Opal Gehring Jr. and Ronnie Gehring.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Pastor Brad Swain officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
