---- — Donnie Leon “Bear” Henson, 64, Kokomo, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at home after a three-month battle with cancer. He was born July 14, 1949, in Tipton County, to Isaac Henry and Eula Faye (James) Henson.

He attended Prairie School near Kempton, and then moved to Kokomo, where he attended Kokomo High School.

Don worked at Victory Bicycle Shop, Nisco, Delongs and was also an over-the-road truck driver. He liked to bowl, work on cars and ride motorcycles. He loved antiques and hunting for them. He rode and worked with horses and was proud to be part Cherokee Indian. He enjoyed playing guitar and listening to old records. He would hide the record jackets and have kids name that tune.

He enjoyed family gatherings and loved his dogs, which he had many throughout his life.

Don is survived by his companion, Sherra Warner; his brother, Jasper (Ruth); past loves and now dear friends, Tanna, Nancy, Carol and Linda; six children, Traci (Lewis) Waters, Donnie Swanson, Thomas (Lisa) Swanson, Chenell Shelley, Sunshine (Micheal) Baker and Luke (Melanie) Henson; 18 grandkids; four great-grandkids; 18 nieces and nephews; and four sisters-in-law, Nancy, Carol, Nancy and Linda.

He was preceeded in death by his parents and five brothers, Noah, Virgil, Bill, Bearl and Jearl.

Celebration of life services will be 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Walnut Creek Apartments Community Building, 4600 Colter Dr., Kokomo.
