Sue Louise Smeltzer

April 1, 1933 - Sept. 9, 2013

Sue Louise Smeltzer, 80, went to Heaven at 1 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, peacefully in her home. She was born April 1, 1933, in Kokomo, the daughter of Raymond and Gladys (Sellers) Shutt. She married Rex L. Smeltzer May 7, 1955, at Main Street United Methodist Church in Kokomo.

Sue was a 1951 graduate of Kokomo High School. She worked as an administrative assistant for Dr. Edward Showalter before she and husband Rex founded the Cone Palace restaurant in Kokomo. Sue co-owned and operated the business from 1966 until her retirement.

She was a member of First Congregational Christian Church. After retirement, she enjoyed spending time at their lake home on Lake Wawasee in Syracuse. She and Rex also enjoyed being “snowbirds” and wintering at their condo in Islamorada, Fla. Nothing was more important to Sue than family. Her family was everything to her and she was everything to her family. Her greatest joy was being “Grammy” to her grandchildren, Jordan, Hayden and Allie. She had fond memories of their many times spent together, especially at the lake.

She is survived by her husband, Rex; one son, Jeff Smeltzer (Lisa), Kokomo; one daughter, Cindy Quinn (Brad), Indianapolis; three grandchildren, Jordan Smeltzer, Hayden and Allie Quinn, all of Indianapolis; one brother, Tom Shutt (Melvita) of Kokomo; two sisters-in-law, Ella Mae Shutt and Fran Smeltzer, both of Kokomo.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Jack Shutt. Also preceding her in death were two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, Ronald Smeltzer and Max and Martha Smeltzer.

A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at First Congregational Christian Church, 505 W. Mulberry St., with Pastor Jon Tice officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Congregational Christian Church Memorial Fund and/or Alzheimer’s Association, or Guardian Angel Hospice Foundation. Online condolences may be left at www.shirleyandstout.com.
