Deborah (Jones) Johnson, 66, Kokomo, passed away at 5:51 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born Nov. 24, 1946, in Kokomo, the daughter of Richard T. and Betty (Rhinebarger) Jones. On Sept. 6, 1969, at the First Congregational Christian Church, she married John E. Fredrick, who died Oct. 29, 1969. She was later married, for 29 years, to Wayne E. “Gene” Johnson, the father of their children.
She was a 1965 graduate of Kokomo High School and attended Indiana University at Bloomington. Deborah was a salaried employee of Delphi Electronics & Safety in Kokomo for 30 years, retiring in 2001. She was also a member of Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church, the Elks Lodge of Kokomo, and was well known as a problem solver and a people person.
Survivors include two sons, Richard C. “Chad”and wife Katie Johnson, Kokomo, and Scott F. Johnson and wife Holly, Greenwood; five grandchildren, Ethan Johnson, Lillian Johnson, Basey Morrow, Ava Johnson, and Finnley Johnson; a cousin and close friend, Kim Graves, Kokomo; and close friend, Opal Gappens, Sharpsville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband.
Funeral services celebrating Debbie’s life will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Homes & Crematory Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with the Rev. Father Martin Sandhage the celebrant. Burial will follow in Crown point Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time Friday at the funeral home.
