---- — Karla Patricia Gardner, 55, Kokomo, passed away at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, at Northwoods Village, Kokomo. Born May 2, 1958, in Kokomo, she is the daughter of the late Roland H. Fort and Australia S. (Kirby) Fort.
She was a 1975 graduate of Kokomo High School. In 1996, Karla finished 24 years of employment with Delphi. On Nov. 7, 2003, in Kokomo, she married David Carl Gardner. He preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 2010. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, gardening, shopping, and and she loved animals. She was a member of U.A.W. Local 292.
Survivors include one daughter, DeAndrea (Justin) Davis, Indianapolis; five brothers, Larry Fort and Karl P. Fort, both of Kokomo, Shawn F. Fort, Madison, Wis., Dana R. (Tammy) Forte, Greenwood, and Andre C. Fort, Cincinnati, Ohio; three sisters, Sarita M. (Moses) Mickens, Louisville, Ky., Rolanda L. (Larry) Smith, Indianapolis, and Lillian E. Hardy, Kokomo; four grandsons, Devin, Curt, Collin and Evan; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A graveside service for Karla will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Crown Point Cemetery, 1101 E. Sycamore St. Pastor L.E. Anderson Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., that same day.
Memorials may be directed to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, with envelopes available at the mortuary. Ellers Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
