Deanna M. Henson

April 28, 1941 - May 7, 2013

Deanna Mae Henson, 72, passed away Tuesday May 7, 2013. Deanna was born April 28, 1941, in Peru, to Edward and Pauline (Mills) Moyer. Deanna was married three times, to John W. Rogers, Bearl D. Henson and Charles W. P. McNeal Jr., who preceded her in death.

Deanna graduated from the old Peru High School in 1959. She worked for WWKI Television, the Kokomo Animal Shelter and retired from EDCO Corp., Buena Park, Calif.

Deanna loved animals. She was an avid equestrian aficionado who loved her Arabian horses as well as her Rottweiler “Savage” and her many cats. She enjoyed reading, especially science fiction and mystery novels by Dean Koontz and Stephen King. She enjoyed television shows such as “Criminal Minds,” “The Mentalist” and “CSI.” She enjoyed basketball and her favorite team was the Oklahoma Thunder. She enjoyed NASCAR and Indy Racing.

Deanna especially loved singing and playing guitar, a gift she passed down to many of her children and grandchildren. She loved sharing her talents with numerous local musicians and bands — especially as a duet with her husband, Bearl D. Henson, in their band The Country Dynamite. She was a regular performer at local venues such as the Flamingo Club and the Steel Inn. Deanna had also won a recording contract from Chicago South Records. She loved Elvis, Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Conway Twitty, Tammy Wynette, George Jones and numerous others. Deanna enjoyed all genres of music.

Deanna is survived by, and will be greatly missed by, her three sons, Johnny (Valerie) Rogers, Charles (Sonia) Rogers and Robert (Linda) Rogers; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles King; sister, Mary Walters; and her grandson, Jon N. Rogers.

Services will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 W. Third St., Peru, IN 46970.

Deanna was an advocate against animal abuse and promoted animal adoption. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Pals for Paws, P.O Box 1034, Kokomo, IN 46903-1034.
