W. Jean Lindley Savage, 88, Evansville, formerly Tipton County, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, after suffering a stroke last Friday. She was in Deaconess Gateway Hospital, Evansville. Jean was a lifelong Quaker and the daughter of Walter and Gertrude (Morrison) Lindley. She was born on the family farm in Prairie Township, Tipton County, on March 7, 1925. She was the youngest of their five daughters, all of whom preceded her in death, Opal (Brookbank), Ruby (Collier), Mary (Mitchell), and Betty.
Jean graduated from Prairie High School 1943 and Indiana Business College in 1945. She was a career bookkeeper for Lincoln Finance and later for Zintsmaster and Erik’s Chevrolet in Kokomo. Also she was an avid homemaker.
In 1949, she married Roy T. Savage, who survives. They are members of the Russiaville Friends Meeting. She was also a member of the United Society of Friends Women, County Extension Home Economics Club and Indiana Society of Pioneers. She was a descendant of Indiana Settler Jonathan Lindley. After moving to Evansville in 1995 she received much pleasure attending her grandsons’ activities.
Jean is survived by two sons, John (Larry Cabradilla Jr.), San Francisco, Calif., and David (Becky Price) Evansville, and their three sons, Matthew, Indianapolis, Luke , Evansville, and Andrew, West Lafayette. She is also survived by her many dear nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St. Burial will follow at New London Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
