---- — James Russell “Skip” Bowman, 83, Converse, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013. He was born May 15, 1930, to the late Wilbur and Novella (Anderson) Bowman.
Skip graduated in 1948 from Converse High School, where he played baseball, basketball and ran track. He was a farmer and then for over 30 years he owned and operated Skip’s Mobile Homes in Kokomo. After retiring, He and his wife enjoyed buying and selling antiques. He loved fishing and enjoyed watching and talking about sports.
Skip was a member of the Converse Church of Christ and a member of the Converse Masonic Lodge 601, where he was a 50-plus year member. He was past master of Somerset Lodge, former Converse Town Board president, Converse fire chief and Wabash County commissioner.
Survivors are daughters, Ann Bowman, Valparaiso, and Ginger (Don) Chasteen, Kokomo; brother, Gene (Cheryl) Bowman, Wabash; beloved dog, Jobe; and four grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jennie Sue Bowman; and a daughter, Barbara Joyce Bowman.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Larrison-Martin Chapel, 308 E. Marion St., Converse. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home, with Pastor Rob Schwarze officiating. Burial be in Converse Cemetery.
