---- — Samuel “Joe” White, 69, Kokomo, passed away at 8:21 a.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Health. Sam was born Dec. 12, 1943, in Hemlock, Howard County, to the late Floyd L. and Mary H. (Allee) White. On July 17, 1997, Sam married Bertha “Lucy” (Gibson) White. Lucy survives.
Sam graduated from Eastern High School with the class of 1962. After high school, Sam proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1973. Sam also worked at Delco for 34 years until retiring in 1996, where he was the union representative. Sam enjoyed many things including his dogs, birds, yard work, wood working and his favorite cat, Tigger. He also enjoyed NASCAR, and was an avid I.U. fan. Sam will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Sam was a member of the American Legion, Post #6, and the VFW, Post #1152.
Sam is survived by his wife, Lucy, Kokomo; one brother, Floyd (Marsha) White, Kokomo; two sisters, Carolyn Huffer, Forest, Marillyn (Lenard) Shirley, Speedway; and several nieces and nephews.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, James White, Robert White, John Ronald, and Charles White.
A funeral service for Sam will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo, with Pastor Larry Richeson officiating as well as Military Honors provided by the U.S. Air Force, and the local VFW Military Rites Team. All of Sam’s friends and family are welcome to join together for a time of visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
