Helen Haskett

May 19, 1917 - March 5, 2013

Helen Haskett, 95, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in Westfield. She was born Helen Elizabeth Buscher on May 19, 1917, near Atlanta, Ind., to Augustine Buscher and Cora Pearl Wilson Buscher. On March 8, 1941, she married John Wendell Haskett, Westfield. In 1947, John and Helen moved their young family to Kokomo and began lifelong participation in St Joan of Arc Catholic Church. They  lived in Kokomo until John’s death in 2003, when Helen relocated to Tipton for nine years before her final move to Westfield.

Helen was the last survivor of her birth family. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Fred, John and Robert; and sisters, Harriet, Martha McEntee, Mary Forkner and Catherine Joerger. She was also preceded in death by her son, James (Martha Vandivort), and by granddaughter Lara Haskett; and great-grandchildren, Christopher James Ridenour and Natalie Jayne Rutledge.

Helen is survived by her children, son Richard (Kathleen Keating); daughters Rebecca Ridenour (Robert) and Teresa Coy (Richard); 10 beloved grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and by generations of nieces and nephews, all of whom provided her great joy.

Helen’s later years were enjoyed in loving companionship at St. Joseph Center in Tipton. Her family expresses its deep appreciation to the nuns, residents and staff there who truly built among themselves a blessed and beloved community. The family also wishes to acknowledge the generous companionship and kind and merciful care Helen received from the staffs of Sanders Glen Assisted Living and Premier Hospice.

Helen will be long remembered for her playfulness, her infectious laughter, her dedication to family and friends, her attention to the needs of others and her deep and personal commitment to her faith.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 West, Kokomo, with the Rev. Theodore Dudzinski the celebrant. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, where a scripture service will be held at 7:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the Mass at the church.

Memorials in Helen’s name are suggested to the Sisters of St. Joseph or to the American Cancer Society. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
