Stephen Arthur “Tank” Name, 61, Kokomo, passed away at 4:21 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, 2011, at St. Joseph Hospital, Kokomo. He was born Jan. 23, 1950, son of Noble Charles E. and Edith A. (Jewell) Name. On Jan. 6, 1973, he married Linda Smith, who survives.
He graduated from Northwestern High School in 1969, was an Army veteran, and attended the University of Oklahoma. He retired from the post office and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was an avid Purdue and Cubs fan and loved most sports, especially fishing. Stephen loved watching his kids, nephews and nieces play their individual sports.
He is survived by his mother, Edith A. Name, Kokomo; former wife, Linda Schrock; three children, Eric L. Name and wife Emily, Rochester, N.Y., Stephanie R. Bates, Kokomo, and Stephen R.L. Name and wife Nickey, Kokomo; grandchildren, Darian and Jordan Bates and Kaleai Alexander and Jason Alexander; four brothers, Skip Name and wife Sandy, Alpine, Utah, John Name and wife Kate, Sheridan, Tim Name, Kokomo, and Bill Davin and wife Carla, Kokomo; a sister, Ginger Alderfer and husband Kirk, Rockmart, Ga., a cousin, Edith Lock, Kokomo; his good friend Tom Carpender, Kokomo; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Noble Charles E. Name.
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Dee Marler officiating. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Stephen R.L. Name, Eric L. Name, Skip Name, John Name, Tim Name, and Bill Davin will serve as pallbearers. Bruce Miller, Tom Carpender, Ian Alderfer, Dietrich Alderfer, Maurice Hicks, Craig Smith, and David Smith will serve as honorary pallbearers. Friends may visit with the family from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kokomo Humane Society.
