Carol Ann (Murphy) Gagnon

Feb. 8, 1943 - April 18, 2013

Carol Ann (Murphy) Gagnon, 70, Kokomo, passed away following surgery at St. Vincent Memorial Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born Feb. 8, 1943, in Kokomo, to Cecil Henry and Evelyn Violet (Mills) Murphy. On Jan. 14, 1972, she married Thomas A. Gagnon in Marion.

Carol grew up in Kokomo, graduated from Kokomo High School, and retired from Delco/Delphi Electronics in 2000 after 27 years of service, where she was elected and served three terms as a Shop Plant Committeeman.

Throughout the years, Carol was deeply involved with the Howard County Overseas Club, served as a volunteer at the Marion Veteran Medical Hospital, the National League of Family POW MIA’S, Women for Vietnam Veterans, Zollman Curb Jumpers and the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Organization. In recent years, Carol was involved with Go Red for Women fashion show, American Heart Association, March of Dimes, Stride Walk for Breast Cancer, Pink Affair, American Cancer Society, Howard County Sports Hall of Fame and Bridges Outreach. “Grandma Bridges” as the kids affectionately called her, loved nothing better than to cook up a batch of her special treats for the kids and to see the smile on their faces as she entered the room. For her efforts and dedication to Bridges Outreach, she was awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Besides being an award winning photographer, Carol was a dedicated crafter and gifted artisan. Over the years there wasn’t a craft that she didn’t excel at. Recently, she created and sold (for fundraising purposes) her wonderful Boobielicious Bra Purses, which are currently on display at the Foley Performing Art Association in Foley, Ala.

Carol had a special zeal for life and adored, loved and cherished spending time with her family. She was a fabulous cook. On the holidays, she insisted that everyone gather at her home where her cooking really shined. Everyone looked forward to eating Carol’s ham salad, cheese corn and rice crispy treats.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Gagnon; daughters, Renda Donovan and Ronda (Greg) Donovan Bell; grandchildren, Derrick (Jenny) Bell, Matt (Danelle) Bell, Billy (LeAnne) Guerre, Emily Vent, Nathan Vent, Alex Plude and Nolan Vent; great-grandchildren, Ava Bell, Lilly Guerre and Tristan Bell; sisters, Molly (Kay) Stough and Cathy (Wayne) Rombold; brother, Thomas (Glenda) Murphy; two aunts, Helen Copeland and Dorothy Michelson; cousins, Rick Smith, Connie Jumper; nieces, Tammy Mohr and Tracy (Mark) Boles; and nephew, Calvin Murphy.

Carol was preceded by her parents; brother, William (Bill) Murphy; and brother-in-law, Lawrence (Larry) Stough.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at Ellers Mortuary, Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo. Services will be immediately conducted at 3 p.m., Monday at the mortuary, with the Rev. Ruth Lawson officiating. Following the service entombment will take place at Kokomo Memorial Park.
