Donald L. Zirkle, 85, Kempton, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Hospital. He was born June 10, 1927, in Kankakee, Ill., to Rex and Della (Witham) Zirkle. On Dec. 22, 1945, in Howard County, he married Annabelle Phillabaum, and she survives.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War.
In addition to his wife, Annabelle Zirkle, he is survived by three children, Anita Corradi and husband James, Kokomo, Kathy Rood and husband Russell, Sharpsville, and Jamie Bitner and husband Paul, Greentown; six grandchildren, Monica (Rood) Pyke, Sharpsville, Tony Rood and Kim Parton, Tipton, Melissa (Bitner) Butler, Kokomo, Sheri (Corradi) Keller and husband Eric, Whitestown, Sandi Corradi, Kokomo, and Susan Corradi, Noblesville; seven great-grandchildren, Keegan, Noah and Keelee Pyke, Sharpsville, Drew Rood, Kokomo, Dylan and Kraemer Keller, Whitestown, and R.J. Burns, Tipton; and one great-great-grandson, Anthony Rood.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Joshua Neil Bitner; and two great-granddaughters, Emma Ruth Heffelmirer and Nyah Grace Pyke.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, with Pastor Ruth Lawson officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
