— James A. Lawson, 91, died at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at his home. He was born Jan. 16, 1922, in Cassville, the son of James Benjamin and Lavanche (Hollingsworth) Lawson. On June 18, 1949, he married Nina M. (Whitehead) in Indianapolis, and she survives him.
He graduated from Kokomo High School in 1940 and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1943 through 1945, attaining the rank of corporal, having served at Normandy and Central Europe, and was awarded five Bronze Stars.
James retired from Delco Electronics in 1987 after 47 years of service as a machine designer. He enjoyed woodworking, feeding birds and squirrels, fixing things, meeting with his high school class and fellow Delco retirees.
He is survived by his wife, Nina; children, Royce (Jacqui) Lawson, England, Lanell (Steve) Feller, Kokomo, Perry (Cindy) Lawson, Glendale, Ariz., Jerel Lawson, Kokomo, Janna (Steve) Rogers, Kokomo; grandchildren, Zac Lawson, Jake Lawson, Erin Feller, Josh Feller, Nicole Rogers, Andy Rogers, Joel (Gladys) Jensen, Matt Feller, Travis Leach; great-grandchildren, Maliya Jensen, Ovain Jensen, Riley Feller; siblings, Jane Stabler, Dave (Betty) Lawson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Thomas Lawson and Norman Lawson; and siblings, Ed Lawson, Emmy Chapman and Bill Lawson.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, with Pastor Morgan Young officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 2 p.m. until the time of service. Military honors will be provided by the VFW and U.S. Army. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
