Joseph R. Leap, 85, Kokomo, passed into eternal life Monday, April 22, 2013 from Maple Park Village in Westfield. He was born July 24, 1927, in Sharpsville, the son of Frederick E. and Mary (Johnson) Leap. On Jan. 20, 1951, in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, he married Antoinette M. Palumbo, who survives.
Joe was a 1945 graduate of Sharpsville High School. Following his service in the U.S. Army during World War II, he graduated from the Indiana School of Mortuary Science. In 1957, he graduated from the American Institute of Banking. Joe worked for 20 years in various positions in First National Bank. He then became the first business manager in the Diocese of Lafayette, serving St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.
Joe was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. He was a member of the Serra Club, Knights of Columbus, Elks and Kiwanis. He enjoyed golf and Purdue football.
Survivors include his wife, Toni; six children, Joseph A. Leap, J. Daniel (Barbara) Leap, Teresa M. Leap, Anna M. (Steve) Phillips, Lisa M. Leap and Angela M. (Brian) Lamantia; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and his brother-in-law, John Palumbo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 West, Kokomo, with the Rev. Fr. Theodore Dudzinski, the Rev. Fr. Dennis O’Keeffe and the Rev. Fr. David Hellmann the celebrants. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Army and the Kokomo V.F.W. Military Rites Team. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
