Barbara Zimmerer, 76, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at Primrose Retirement Community. She was born the daughter of Philip and Lucille (Rademaker) Hipskind on Sept. 14, 1937, in Marion.

Barbara was a 1955 graduate of Bennett High School in Marion, and a 1958 graduate of the Holy Cross Central School of Nursing, where she became a registered nurse. From 1959 to 1963 she worked for Dr. Max Earl, 1969 to 1991 St. Joseph Hospital ICU, and in 1991 did travel nursing in Lakeland, Fla. She was a resident of Bradenton, Fla., from 2001 through 2012.

Her memberships included St. Patrick Catholic Church in Kokomo, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradenton, and Holy Cross Central Alumni. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, friend and nurse. She loved family gatherings and spending time at the beach. She enjoyed Notre Dame football, as well as her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She will be dearly missed and forever loved.

She is survived by her children, Diane M. (James) Hoagland, Kokomo, Greg M. Zimmerer, Brownsburg, John B. (Kaley) Zimmerer, Logansport, Tony L. (Shari) Zimmerer, Tampa, Fla., Susie M. (Chris) Sprinkle, Indianapolis; grandchildren, Kyle Wheeler, Gabriel Hoagland, Grant Hoagland, Samantha Zimmerer, Lauren Zimmerer, Madison Zimmerer, Ava Zimmerer, Mia Zimmerer, Josiah Sprinkle, Noah Sprinkle; siblings, Pauline Libengood, Sally Vollmer, Tom Hipskind, Joe Hipskind; and sister-in-law, Joyce Hipskind. She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, John Hipskind, Mary Ann Spahr; and brothers-in-law, Doug Libengood, Jerry Vollmer, and sisters-in-law, Jenny Hipskind, and Lois Hipskind.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1220 N. Washington St., with the Rev. Father Marty Sandhage officiating. Entombment will follow at Kokomo Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, where a Rosary service will be at 7 p.m.
