James M. Burt

James M. Burt, 63, Fort Wayne, formerly of Kokomo, died Jan. 27, 2007, at Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Jim was born Jan. 14, 1944, in Kokomo, to Lowell and Edna (Harper) Burt.

In 1962 he graduated from Kokomo High School, where he excelled in all sports and was a member of the 1961 state championship basketball team.

After graduation, Jim married his high school sweetheart, Pamela Meritt. Jim and Pam moved to California, where Jim attended Westmont College and California Lutheran College

In June 1967, Jim joined the company of Busak & Shamban/Trelleborg, where he faithfully served for more than 39 years. During this time, Jim’s positive attitude, demeanor and encouraging words were an inspiration to his many friends. His professional memberships included the Society of Automotive Engineers International and the Fort Wayne Rubber Group.

Jim was devoted to his family and friends, was an avid golfer and had a passion for boating and relaxing at his Monticello lake home, where Sophie, his trusted Australian Shepherd, was always at his side.

God bless all who have been so faithful with visits and kindness during the many weeks of his illness.

Jim is survived by his wife, Pam; two daughters, Carrie Eaker, Fort Wayne, Meridith Burt, Canon City, Colo..; three grandchildren, Ryan Eaker, Greenfield, Kyle and Courtney Eaker, Muncie; three brothers, Charles Burt and wife Pat, Galveston, Jerry Burt, Fort Myers, Fla., Tom Burt and wife Connie; Kokomo, two sisters, Betty Schroeter and husband Rudolf, Kokomo, Alice Fellows and husband Larry, Frankfort; two sisters-in-law, Maureen Thomas and husband Jeff Taylor, Chicago, Elaine Needham and husband David, Kokomo; also many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bob and Ronnie and his mother and father-in-law, Olin and Julia Meritt.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Harold Klinker officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends in the Fort Wayne area on Monday at Arcola United Methodist Church, 11311 Arcola Road, from 4 to 8 p.m. They will receive friends in Kokomo at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
