Phyllis R. Harrison, 79, West Middleton, was taken to heaven at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Howard Regional Health System. She was born Oct. 15, 1933, in Somers, Mont., to the late Raymond and Mildred (Porteous) McIntyre. On July 18, 1953, she married Donald J. Harrison and they lived and raised five children together in West Middleton.
Phyllis was a graduate of Conrad High School and started with Scared Heart of Nursing. She was a 1972 graduate of Indiana University Kokomo, receiving a B.A. of Science in nursing. Phyllis began her career as a Pediatric Nurse for St. Joseph Hospital, and was passionate about making a difference in the lives of patients and community. She later worked as a Clinical Instructor for Indiana University Kokomo, and also retired from the Howard County Health Department as a Migrant Nurse.
Phyllis is survived by her husband Donald Harrison; four children, Patty Hendrix, Columbus, Ohio, Carol Harrison, West Middleton, Thomas Harrison, Kokomo, and Marie A. Harrison-Crabtree, West Middleton; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two sisters, Roberta (Mike) Buckley and Erlene (Robert) Robinson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mildred McIntyre; son, Michael Harrison; sister, Edith Lozing; and son in-law, Raymond D. Hendrix.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St. Russiaville, with Rev. James Ball officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service in Kokomo Memorial Park.
