Carl ‘David’ Abney

Jan. 11, 1952 - March 5, 2013

— Carl “David” Abney, 61, Silver City, N.M., entered eternal life Tuesday, March 5, 2013, peacefully at his home with his wife and daughters by his side. He was born to Robert and Grace Abney (Harrison) on Jan. 11, 1952, in Logansport.

David served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, worked in the cable industry, was a landscaper, built barns and did welding and carpentry work. In the years prior to his illness, he owned and operated Recovery Time Recycling at the old Turner Airport in Silver City. He was known for his hard work and “wheelin’ and dealin’.”

He was proud that he was a three-time cancer survivor and fought a hard battle in the past few months with his fourth cancer illness.

David is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Karen “Micki” McClish Abney; his two daughters, Carla (Donnie) Abney and Dana (Kevin) Salger; five grandchildren, Kody, Shaya, Brandon, Tylor and Savannah; one great-grandson, Brycen; his special “critters,” Keeya, Kato and Tippy; all nine of his siblings, Virginia (Tommy) Payne, Frank (Patsy) Abney, Marcella “Cookie” Weaver, John Thomas (Leona) Abney, Robert (Bonnie) Abney, William Edward (Susie) Abney, Gilbert (Uta) Abney, Roy (Nancy) Tyre and Sara Murphy; 25 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

At his request, cremation will take place and private services will be held.
