Wendell W. Myers

Feb. 24, 1926 - Jan. 25, 2014

Wendell W. Myers, 87, Greentown, went home to be with the Lord at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Tipton.

Born Feb. 24, 1926 to Verl and Esta (Harvey) Myers on the farm, he was delivered by his grandma Della Harvey. He graduated from Union High School, Greentown, in 1944. On Sept. 4, 1948 at Meridian Street Christian Church in Greentown, he married Beverley (Julius) Myers, and she survives.

He had been a lifetime member of Meridian Street Christian Church in Greentown, where he served the Lord faithfully as a Deacon and Sunday school superintendent. Wendell was a member of Greentown Lions Club for 60 years and was secretary for 43 years. He received W.P. Woods and Melvin Jones awards for service in the Lions Club. He enjoyed Indiana and Kentucky All-Stars Basketball games, which he attended for over 50 straight years. He loved to bowl, bowling in two leagues until his declining health caused him to stop.

In the late 50’s he organized the Boys Church league basketball, which later he changed to Boys Little League basketball in Greentown. He was a referee for those games and also Union and Jackson Grade schools’ games.

He had been a farmer since he was a young boy. Whenever weather affected the outcome of the crops, Wendell never worried because he trusted God would always bless the farm at harvest time.

He had been Chairman of ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service) Committee for many years.

The family wishes to extend gratitude to the staff of Miller’s Merry Manor, Tipton for the outstanding care and love shown to Wendell during his stay there. Thanks to Lisa Wise, which was his caregiver while he was still at home.

He is survived by his wife, Beverley; daughter, Jean Ann (James) Wise; son, Jerry (Tammy) Myers; grandchildren, Jason (Lisa) Wise, Jacob (Jennifer) Wise, Joshua Myers and Lauren (Matt) Young; great-grandchildren, Austin Wise, Ethan Schuldt, Cedric Wise and Avalea Wise; sister, Shirley Hill; and brother, Bobby (Marilyn) Myers; a special aunt, Annagene Welsh; and brothers-in-law, William (Mary Lou) Julius, Phillip (Lois) Julius and Arthur (Joyce) Hammond.
