— Wayne B. “Barney” Ellis, 81, Waco, Texas, passed away Feb. 19, 2013, at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. He was born in Kokomo Feb. 19, 1932, to Everett and Wanita Thompson. He married his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret (Reynolds) Ellis, on Nov. 19, 1961, in Oakford, and she preceded him in death Feb. 1, 2012.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the Korean War, and retired from Delco in Kokomo after 30 years as a electrician. Wayne had operated many food concession ventures, had a great passion to go dancing, and loved to paint scenic landscapes on many types of objects to give to his family and friends. He never met a stranger and was always helping people in need.

He is survived by his children, Debbie (Lloyd) Hollingsworth, Florida, Karl (Brenda) Ellis, Texas, Lisa (Mark) Everling, Greentown; nine grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Marge (Joe) Wistler, North Carolina, Ethel Ailor, Kokomo, Bill (Samone)Thompson, Elks Grove, Calif., Katie (Bob) Baker, Kempton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Danny Offutt; two brothers, Joe Thompson and Pete Thompson; and one sister, Penny Ann Thompson.

Visitation for family and friends will be 2 to 3 p.m. and a memorial service honoring Wayne will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Jerome Christian Church, 9535 E. 100 South, Greentown, with Bill Meiring officiating. Staying with Wayne’s wishes and due to the severity of his injuries, he will be cremated in Texas.

Memorials can be made to the Kokomo VFW or Kokomo Rescue Mission. Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 E. Main St., Greentown, assisted the family with arrangements.
