James “Melvin” William Sapp, 77, Marion, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012. He was born in Kokomo, to the late James and Anna Grace (Baker) Sapp. He married Marilyn McCarter on Dec. 4, 1954. She survives.
He has been a pastor since 1962, pastoring in Frankfort, Seymour, Kokomo, and currently in Marion, at Bethel Worship Center for 22 years. Church was his life. He retired from Marion Housing Authority maintenance department in 2000. He had a talent to fix anything, including people. He was extremely optimistic and was well known for his saying, “I’ve never had it so good.”
Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday at Bethel Worship Center, 1715 E. 38th St., Marion, with Pastor Mike Henson officiating. Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bethel Worship Center.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Sapp, Marion; daughter, Robbi (Mike) Henson, Marion; sons, Michael (Deborah) Sapp, Fort Worth, Texas, Randy (Lisa) Sapp, Westfield, and Steve (Shelli) Sapp, Sweetser; grandchildren, Mike Jr. (Tonya) Henson, Tasha (Nathan) Dalton, Lauren (Nathan) Calzada, Tiffany Sapp, Kara (Sam) Brooks, Ryan (Stephanie) Sapp, Tyler Sapp, Mackenzie Sapp and Christian Sapp; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Kathryn, Alexis, Trey, Makenna, Baylea, Ben, Bryar, Jack and Baby Brooks; sister, Carolyn Royer; and host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Beatrice Harrell.
