Charles Bruce Parker Sr., Peru, passed away at 7:53 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, in his home surrounded by family after battling cancer for four years. Charles was born May 26, 1938 in Mabbscott, W.Va., to Harry Bruce and Kathleen (Arnold) Parker. On Nov. 4, 1960, he married Vonita Louise (Brown) Parker, and they recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.
Charles served in the U.S. Army. He worked construction, and then at Haynes International, sometimes driving truck, from 1964 to May 1994, when he retired because of health problems.
Charles was vice president of Literary Aid for several years. He loved playing euchre with all his buddies. He also enjoyed camping, cooking and spending time with his family. Charles was a wonderful husband and father. He was a good-hearted person who always helped others and always put others and their needs first.
Survivors include his wife, Vonita; two daughters, Linda Kay (Mike) Parker and Bonnie Lou (George) Gardineer; grandchildren, Amie (Stephen) Roberts, Rebecca (Eli) Gardineer, Candace (Juan) McAdams, George Gardineer, Sean (Kim) McAdams and Charles McAdams; seven great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Kaelynn, Alexandria, Emma, Brooklynn, Brennley and Adalyn; and two sisters, Nancy (Van) Rester, Louisiana, and Patsy (Orlando) Fioalo.
He was preceded in death by son, Charles Bruce Parker Jr., Peru; both parents; brother, William Reynolds, Peru; and sister, Lucy Speight, Georgia.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ever Rest Memorial Park Cemetery, 8315 E. Logansport Road, Logansport. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home in Peru.
