Daniel ‘Danny’ Joseph Sokolowski

April 22, 1944 - May 5, 2013

— Daniel ‘Danny’ Joseph Sokolowski, 69, Rochester, a former Kokomo resident, passed away at his home at 6:20 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013. He was born April 22, 1944, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Anthony and Therese (Matysiak) Sokolowski. On Sept. 17, 1988, in Kokomo, he married Dianne Roesener, who survives.

Danny was a 1963 graduate of Chicago Vocational High School. He was a tool and die maker at Delco Electronics, retiring in September 1999 after 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moose Lodge 1107 in Rochester, VFW Post 1343 in Rochester, Eagles Lodge 852 in Rochester, and UAW Local 292 in Kokomo.

Danny enjoyed weekly movie night with his beloved wife, fishing for crappie and blue gill, bowling, playing poker, woodworking, billiards, boating, leisure book reading, crossword puzzles, watching the Chicago Bears, cookouts and fish fries with family and friends, sharing time with his buddies, Jim Jansen and Lee Loy, just some good ol’ boys never meaning no harm, and enjoying a cigar.

Danny is survived by his wife, Dianne, Rochester; children, Theresa Mileham (Shaun), Attica, Karen Sokolowski (Joshua Walls), South Whitley, Martin Sokolowski (Denna Neale), Sebastopol, Calif., Laura Cohee (Jeremy), Kokomo; stepchildren, Troy Burger (Jianel Acevedo), Kokomo, Julie Thomison (Michael), Kokomo; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his constant companion, Freddie, who was always by his side.

Danny was preceded in death by his father, Anthony Sokolowski; mother, Therese Matysiak Sokolowski Anderson; two brothers, Richard Sokolowski and Ronald Sokolowski and his dogs Kaiser Von, Sullivan and Gracie.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3155 S. 200 West. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Garden in Kokomo. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road.
