Lane ‘Chicken’ A. Roark

Oct. 30, 1950 – May 13, 2013


— Lane “Chicken” A. Roark, 62, of Kokomo passed away at 8:58 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013, at Community Hospital North, Indianapolis.

He was born Oct. 30, 1950, in Kokomo, to the late James and Arietha (McClish) Roark. Lane graduated from Kokomo High School. He married Alice Ruth Gibson on Dec. 21, 2007, and she survives. Lane worked at Button Motors early in life and also on a fishing boat in Florida before beginning his career at Chrysler. He was employed at Chrysler for 34 years working on the assembly line and as a janitor. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #685 and the National Rifle Association. Some of his favorite hobbies included hunting mushrooms, fishing, raising and racing pigeons and driving his Ford tractor. Lane loved life and his family very much.  

Lane is survived by his wife, Alice Roark; his children, Christie (Ed) Merriweether and Chad (Christina) Roark; stepchildren, Stacha (Rick) Brantley and Elizabeth Crowford; grandchildren, Elijah, Faith, Josh, Nathan and Braden; stepgrandchildren, Kayla, Haley, Madison, Joshua, Ethan and Emery; sisters, Catherine (Donald) Draper and Susie Roark and partner Steve Spires; and brothers, James C. (Sandy) Roark and George R. Roark.   

Lane was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Barbara (Bruce) St. John, Nancy (Paul) D’Agostino, C. Louise Phelps and Linda Merrell.   

There will be a funeral service at 3 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Main Street Chapel, 725 South Main Street, Kokomo, with the Rev. Rick Brantley officiating.

Lane’s family will be receiving relatives and friends for a time of visitation on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service also at the mortuary.

Contributions can be made in Lane’s memory to the surviving family to offset expenses during this difficult time.
