Robert “Bob” Blackman went home to be with the Lord at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Dukes Memorial Hospital. Bob was born Aug. 15, 1938, in Peru to the late Chloe May (Thomas) Blackman and Darrold Francis Blackman. He married Judith N. (Floor) Williams on Dec. 30, 1970. She survives.
Bob was a 1956 graduate of Peru High School, served his country in the U.S. Navy from May 1956 to May 1960, and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 to 1966. He retired from Chrysler Corp. in Kokomo. He attended Independent Christian Fellowship Church.
Survivors included his wife, Judy; sons, Kelly Blackman (wife Donita) and Danny Williams (companion Kim Hudson); daughters, Toni Downhour (husband Calvin), Dawn Yoder (husband Bryce), Lora Hai (companion Michael Bischoff), Tina Wantuch (husband Joe), Jennifer Smith (companion Richard Hayes); 28 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Blackman (wife Sue); sisters, Karen Foreman and Sally Chalos (husband Larry “Butch”); and a brother-in-law, James Dowell.
Bob was preceded in death by his father, Darrold Francis Blackman; mother, Chloe M. Gambee; stepfather, Lester Gambee; son, Terry D. Williams; granddaughter, Kera Blackman; brother, Ron Blackman; sister, Sharon Dowell; and brother-in-law, Robert “Pete” Foreman.
Visitation for Bob will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, Peru, with Pastor Brent Cohick officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Independent Christian Fellowship Church.
