Whitt Brooks, 87, Camden, died at 2:46 p.m. Sept. 2, 2013, in IU Arnett Health, Lafayette. He was born April 9, 1926, in Tazewell, Tenn., to Andy Brooks and Dolly (Seals) Brooks.
Whitt attended Claiborne County, Tenn., schools. Mr. Brooks served in the Army during World War II in the Philippines and in Japan. He was in the 25th infantry.
He married Rebecca Lybrook on Sept. 13, 1946, in Delphi, and she preceded him in death on July 4, 2000.
He retired from Loy Roofing and was a self-employed carpenter.
He was a member of the Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Whitt enjoyed his daily trip to Dairy Queen and loved spending time with his wife and family.
Survivors are his daughters, Jane Rogers (Ron), Cummins, Ga., Beverly Brown (Dave), Ockley, Ann Anderson, Cicero, Cindy Brooks, Lafayette, Nancy Fields (Bill), Romney, Sally Clark, West Lafayette; sons, Ronald Brooks, Cummins, Ga., Jack Brooks (Cheryl), Bringhurst; one son in California; 23 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; one granddaughter, Amy Crane; two great-grandchildren, Zion Green and Brianna Windgerter.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Delphi, with the Rev. Erwin Early officiating. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens, Pittsburg.
