---- — Verona E. Harvey, 98, Kokomo, died at 1:58 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at Waterford Place Health Campus. She was born July 7, 1915, in Herndon, Kan., the daughter of Martin and Bertha (Sadler) Hafner. On Nov. 11, 1929, she married John Ruzicka, who preceded her in death. She then married Basil Harvey, who also preceded her in death.
Verona was a homemaker, and had worked at Peerless Plumbing. From 1950 to 1976, she served as secretary at Kokomo Municipal Airport. She was a licensed pilot and instructor, having learned to fly at the age of 17 and continuing to fly until the mid 1950s. She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, Eagles and Moose Lodges, War Birds, Ladies 99, Delco Dance Group and OX5, where she was inducted into the Aviation Hall of Fame.
Verona is survived by a daughter, Bertie (Herb) David, Kokomo; two grandsons, Douglas David, Indianapolis, and Dan (Veronica) David, Kokomo; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Keyton David; one sister, Tillie Pitner, Atwood, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and both husbands.
Private graveside services will take place in Greenlawn Cemetery, Greentown on Tuesday. Friends may call on the family from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home and Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo.
