---- — Michael W. Brooks, 66, passed away at 10:38 p.m. Sept. 9, 2013, at IU Health University Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 22, 1946, the son of Neil and Lila (Saylor) Brooks in Middlesboro, Ky.
Michael was a 1964 graduate of Kokomo High School and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy from 1965 to 1969 having done two tours in Vietnam. He was a machine operator at Chrysler for more than 25 years, retiring in 2004. He was a member of UAW 685, who loved golf, fishing, and the beach in South Carolina. His favorite saying was, “One day at a time.”
He is survived by his mother, Lila Brooks; daughters, Temple (Tony) Dominick, Irmo, S.C., and Hope (Doug) Moore, Greer, S.C.; grandchildren, Braxton and Ashlyn Moore; siblings, Gary (Marsha) Brooks, and Diana (David) Hale, nieces, Tara (Robert) Walker, Jana (Brian) Caudill, and, Amy (Marc) Imboden, a nephew, Deron (Julie) Hale; and several aunts, uncles, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Neil Brooks.
In keeping with Michael’s wishes, private services will be held at Albright Cemetery in Kokomo with Chaplain Bill Patrick officiating. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home and Crematory assisted the family with arrangements.
The family wishes to make a special thank you to the IU Medical Center transplant team as well as Community Howard Regional Hospital lab techs and radiology staff. They are especially appreciative of Alicia and Monica.
