Gertrude E. Quakenbush Grove Hansen, 89, of Kokomo, formerly of Forest, died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at North Woods Village.
She was born April 9, 1923, in Forest, to Dr. Edward F. and Gladys (Goar) Suhre. She married Harley Quakenbush Jr. in June 1941, and he passed in 1963. She then married Dr. Robert Grove in July 1968, and he passed away in 1971. She then married Richard Hansen in June 1972, and he passed away in 2003.
In her younger years, she was very involved in the family farm. She later worked at the Forest Post Office and then in the vault at Union Bank. She started Oriental Garden Antiques. Richard and Gertrude later changed the name of the business to Curiosities Antiques. She enjoyed traveling to the antiques shows, setting up their booths and visiting with their many friends on the road. She graduated from Forest High School in 1940. Gertrude was a Past Matron of Eventide Order of The Eastern Star and a member of the Associated Antique Dealers of America.
Survivors include sons Robert Quakenbush of Gates, N.C., and Tim Quakenbush of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren, Michelle (Darrin) Herr, Debra Archer, Stefanie (Scott) Chambless, Christa (Scott) Vaughn, Robert Quakenbush Jr., Risa (Bud) Hall and two step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands and a son, Jerry Quakenbush.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Stout & Son Funeral Home, Russiaville Chapel, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Pastor Steve Cole officiating. Burial will be at St. Paul Cemetery in Forest.
