---- — James R. (Jim) Harmon Sr., 77, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at Community Howard Regional Health following a brief illness. He was born the son of Woodrow Francis and Edna Marie (Webb) Harmon in Kokomo. On Sept. 4, 1955, he married Patsy A. (Willoughy) at First Baptist Church of Kokomo, and she survives him.
Jim was a 1955 graduate of Northwestern High School and went on to serve his country in the Army National Guard as a Sergeant until 1962. Jim worked for Kroger Grocery on Washington Street as a young person, and then went on to Chrysler. He retired from General Motors in 1992 after serving as Fire Marshall for Delco Electronics and Fisher Body for 31 years. He taught first aid, CPR, and hazmat classes with the fire brigade. At retirement, he served as Indiana Fire Manager for all GM plants in the state.
His memberships included NCHA Delco Solid State Campers Club (past president), NCHA Tee Pee Toters Camping Club, NCHA-National Campers and Hikers Association, and Master of Ceremonies for the Cub Scouts. Jim was an avid camper, fisherman and outdoor enthusiast. He wintered in Ft. Myers, Fla., for the past 15 years and fished the intercoastal waterway on a regular basis.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy A. Harmon; sons, James R. and Jeanine (Abner) Harmon Jr., Garland, Texas, and Jeffery A. and Anita J. (Martin) Harmon, Branson, Mo.; grandchildren, James Aaron Harmon and Alana J. Harmon, Branson, Mo.; and sisters, Peggy Foust and Barbara J. Nelson, Kokomo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Sharon S. Shields.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, Lincoln Road Chapel, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
