---- — Betty E. Broyles, 88, a former resident of Sharpsville, passed away Oct. 1, 2013, at Illini Heritage Rehab and Health Care in Champaign, Ill.

Betty was born May 29, 1925, in Greentown. She was the daughter of James J. and Verlie (Hamler) Speck. She married Jack R. Broyles on March 16, 1948. He preceded her in death in 2007.

Betty graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1943. She had been a teacher’s aide at Sharpsville-Prairie Elementary School for many years. She also worked as a floral designer at Brumbaugh’s Greenhouse. She was an active member of Sharpsville Methodist Church, W.S.C.S., Sharpsville Home Economics Club and the Jolly Mollies card club. She also served on the Liberty Township Advisory Board. She enjoyed oil painting, china painting and sewing. She was a devoted wife and mother and especially liked spending time with her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her son, Rick Broyles and wife, Renee, Champaign, Ill.; daughters, Debbie (Randy) Takata, Visalia, Calif., Lynn Ann Broyles, Santa Clarita, Calif., and Dana (John) Goodrich, Carmel; and seven grandchildren. Her brother, Charles (Reda) Speck, Santa Maria, Calif., and sister, Julia (Dean) Olds, Greer, S.C., preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at noon Monday at Boyer Funeral Home, Sharpsville. The Rev. Tim Haworth will officiate. Burial will be at the Sharpsville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the funeral home.
