Jerry D. Carpenter, 60, Kokomo, passed away at 8:35 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospice. He was born Feb. 24, 1953, in Kokomo, to the late Francis and Grace (Cardwell) Carpenter. On Sept. 22, 1984, in Kokomo, he married Denise (Scircle) Carpenter, and she survives.
He graduated from Eastern High School and attended Lincoln Tech. After he served in the U.S. Army, he worked at Chrysler and retired in 2007. After retiring from Chrysler, he worked as an activity assistant at Northwoods Commons. He was passionate about golf and had been the assistant coach at Eastern High School for both the boys and girls high school golf teams for the past 15 years. He was a member of the Sycamore Friends Church. He was also a member of the Lions Club, American Legion, and the Brethren Way of Christ Movement. He was a very generous soul and always placed others’ needs before his own.
Surviving are his wife, Denise Carpenter, Kokomo; two daughters, Anna Bell and husband, Daniel, Kokomo, and Michelle Carpenter, Kokomo; two grandchildren, Gwenevere and Ryan Bell, Kokomo; five brothers, Stanley Carpenter, Steve Carpenter, Dennis Carpenter, Ralph Carpenter, and Jack Carpenter; three sisters, Shirley Eckert, Janet Turner, and Helen Tedlock; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Lee Carpenter and Harry Carpenter.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Ellers Mortuary Webster Street Chapel, 3400 S. Webster St., with Pastor Jesse Vore officiating. Burial will follow at Crown Point Cemetery with full military honors conducted by United States Army and Kokomo VFW military rites team. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.
