Barbara Joyce Davis, 68, Russiaville, passed away at 2:35 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, following a nearly two-year courageous battle with a liver infection, awaiting a liver transplant. She lived successfully with Carcinoid Cancer, a neuroendocrine cancer, since Nov. 17, 2004.
Born March 7, 1945 in Valparaiso, she is the daughter of the late John Preston Williams and Maxine Martha (McNeely) Williams. She graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1963. She earned her associate degree with honors from Indiana University Kokomo Campus in 1989 and received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration Suma Cum Laude from Indiana Wesleyan University in 1993. On April 11, 1964 in Valparaiso, she married William E. Davis, and he survives. She was a clerk for BW Manufacturing in Kokomo from 1964 to 1965; file clerk for executive offices of United Airlines 1965 to 1966; full time wife, homemaker, and mother to three children from 1966 to 1982. From 1983 to 1985, she was Avon district manager; 1985 to 1988 with Kelly Services; and from March 31,1988 to April 1, 2001, she was a Steno with Delphi, then a documentation specialist. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church from 1968 to 1978 and from 1992 to the time of her death, where she sang in the choir. She is a former member of St. Luke’s UMC and West Middleton UMC. She also belonged to the Sounds of Hope Choir Group. She enjoyed family, music, church, travel, photography, horses, dogs, cats and staying in touch via email. She is present charter member of Savvy Sidekicks Natural Horsemanship Club. She was a volunteer, speaker, member and student riding instructor for the handicapped with PATH and Equiventure Therapeutic Riding from 2007 to 2012. She was involved in the Literary Coalition for 10 years, and trained over 450 tutors for the coalition. She is a recipient of the J.C. Penney Golden Rule Award for her work in literacy, being recognized for over 500 hours in volunteer tutoring. She was involved in scouting, being a Cub Scout den leader, district den leader trainer, day camp director, Boy Scout badge counselor, assistant Brownie leader and Brownie and Girl Scout badge counselor.
